Last weekend was the July 4th holiday. Independence Day was on Saturday. And there was a full moon on Sunday, July 5th. Despite many activities being cancelled, there was plenty of celebrating in the Mat-Su Valley.
The weather was perfect (sunny and hot) for days and days only breaking today (Wed July 9th) with the first substantial rainstorm we have seen in a while.
Needless to say, things around here were a bit CRAZY.
The Glacier View Annual 4th of July event (which consists of vehicles being flung off a cliff with thousands of people watching) took place for the 15th straight year. Here are a couple of photos posted on the event’s Facebook group:
Some people participated in their annual almost-naked hike and posted numerous photos and videos on the Alaska Hiking group:
Someone enjoyed a patriotic swim at the Knik Glacier. Here is a photo courtesy of the Knik River Lodge‘s Facebook page:
Someone complained about all of the “service animals” allowed into the Wasilla Walmart on the Mat-Su Who NOT to Use Group and said she was going to bring in a TEAM of SLED DOGS next time just to make a point:
Someone took a dump in the Mat-Su Urgent Care parking lot on KGB and someone else photographed (gross!), posted, and complained about it on the KGB traffic & Crime group:
And on the Mat-Su Valley News group today, a woman posted that someone tried to burglarize her parent’s house and left behind a pair of pants, socks, and underwear!
